In response to this bold ambition, Exeter City Futures created a clear roadmap to carbon neutrality: the Net Zero Exeter 2030 Plan, which has now been officially adopted by the city.

This marks the start of an exciting journey for Exeter, to ensure our city remains one of the greatest places to live and work in the UK.

In the successful delivery of the Net Zero Exeter 2030 Plan we can bring about an even better city for everyone, with cleaner air, richer public spaces, active and healthy lifestyles and a more sustainable economy, but we need your help to make this a reality!

Please read on to find out more and get involved with the net zero journey...

The Net Zero Exeter 2030 Plan is a roadmap detailing how our wonderful city can achieve its bold ambition of being carbon neutral by 2030. In its creation, Exeter City Futures engaged with a diverse range of individuals and organisations from across the city to incorporate different values, perspectives and backgrounds.

The Plan sets out a series of practical actions that our city leaders, organisations and individuals can take, with associated carbon savings and cost, which Exeter needs to deliver in order to achieve its bold carbon target by 2030.

If we work together to make the Net Zero Exeter 2030 Plan a reality all of us, including our friends and families, will enjoy cleaner air, greener public spaces, and will be able to move more safely and freely across the city in order to access high quality jobs and vital services.

Here are a few of the focus areas we will be tackling within the Plan that will have the largest carbon savings:

  • 53,500 tonnes of carbon saved if 100% of Exeter’s electricity was generated from clean sources, ensuring we breathe cleaner air and have healthier homes.
  • 49,200 tonnes of carbon saved if we were to swap all private cars across the city to Ultra Low Emission Vehicles, improving the quality of the air we breathe.
  • 8,800 tonnes of carbon saved if Exeter launched a city-wide low carbon transport scheme, supported by multimodal ticketing, ensuring we can move around the city more easily and access vital jobs, services and education.

Successful delivery of the Net Zero Exeter 2030 Plan will only be achieved through a genuinely collaborative effort from everyone across the city.

We need your support to make this happen, so we are calling upon everybody in Exeter to do their bit and help us on this journey. Together we are stronger.
