Royal Albert Memorial Museum
Free entry gives everyone the freedom to visit many times and to stay for any length of time.
With three special exhibition spaces, its changing programme means there is likely to be something different to see every visit, from national touring shows to community displays and fine art from the city’s collection.
Displays draw from the city’s collection including glassware, Westcountry silver, clocks and watches, local history and archaeology. Exotic animals, birds and butterflies delight children and the World Cultures galleries display stunning items from all over the world.
RAMM is for everyone. Situated between Rougemont and Northernhay gardens and the city’s busy commercial centre, it is easily accessible by bus, rail or car. The splendid Victorian building has full wheelchair access and a key objects tour with BSL, audio and subtitles can be enjoyed by all visitors using the free WiFi. The family-friendly cafe provides delicious light meals, snacks and drinks.
Don’t forget to visit The Shop at RAMM, offering hand-picked gifts and unique craft items alongside books and affordable souvenirs for children. Gifts have been chosen which don’t appear at other places in the city so that The Shop at RAMM can offer an exclusive shopping experience inspired by the museum.
The museum’s busy event programme includes talks and classes for adults and lively, creative activities for children and families.
The RAMM have now developed a simple website optimised for mobile and tablet use to provide tours that visitors can use in the museum with their free wifi service, take tours around Exeter based on the time periods and related objects on our Time Trail website, and find exhibition related objects via a tour and map. Part of this is providing access to disabled visitors, hence the BSL, audio and subtitled key objects tour, but it is also catering for the cultural visitor to Exeter. And providing an online service when the museum is closed on a Monday or bank holiday! To access the site please click on the link in the 'Further Information' section below.
An events booklet contains details of all exhibitions and events. Call the museum on 01392 265858 for your physical copy or visit the website www.exeter.gov.uk/RAMM.
Awards and standards include Gold, Silver and Bronze awards in the 2017 Devon Tourist Awards, 2017 TripAdvisor Certificate of Excellence, two local family-friendly awards in 2017, the Arts Council Designation Scheme, the Accreditation Scheme for Museums in the United Kingdom, Collections Trust Best Practice Award 2013, RIBA South West Special Award for Conservation and Building of the Year 2013 and Museum of the Year 2012.
